Jesus - The Welcome Wagon - Welcome To The Welcome Wagon (Vinyl, LP, Album)

This album was recorded, engineered and mixed, December - June , mainly in apartments and studios throughout the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, New York. Barcode and Other Identifiers Barcode (Sticker On Back Cover): 6 - - 1 /5(15).

 · Welcome to the Welcome Wagon is a joint labor of love between Sufjan Stevens (who produced and contributed music and vocals to the album) and husband and wife team Vito and Monique Aiuto. The Aiutos, who head a young church in Brooklyn, had no intention of sharing their music outside their congregation.

The debut album by The Welcome Wagon unveils a ramshackle sing-a-long enterprise of a Presbyterian pastor (the Rev. Vito Aiuto) and his wife (Monique) wrestling out the influences of folk music, religion, popular culture, and church tradition in a collection of songs that is as soulful as it is good-humored.

Well-crafted songs, interesting arrangements, compelling instrumentation. The Welcome Wagon follows in that vein. While much has been written about the Stevens' influence, and it is certainly present, I do not find it to detract from the overall sound or vision of the album/5.

 · Although the Welcome Wagon roll their wheels over familiar territory, the band's debut is still somewhat bewildering. At their root, these songs flaunt little more than homespun melodies and basic chord progressions, featuring 12 gospel-influenced narratives in the folk tradition.
